A neighborly talk

On a rainy day, Bob takes time off from fixing fence to talk with his neighbor Ralph. These days there seems to be a lot to talk about, such as the new power line going up and the wind towers one can see to the east of the farm.

Our home town banker

I caught Dave off guard here trying to clear off his desk before I took the picture. I thought it looked just fine before he straighted it up. You can always find Dave working here in the bank, and at one time you could even find him clerking just about every local sale in the community.

The Co-op

Ivan, the manager of the Elkton Co-op is showing me around the yard. I do have to say the equipment they use today in the field is a bit different than what we used when I was a kid. I used to think an M Farmal was a big tractor, and a B John Deer was about all one needed to farm. Today, with that kind of machinery we would not get a lot done.

The Mailman

The mailman is someone the farmer looks forward to seeing on a daily basis. When I was a kid, the mailman was often the only car that drove by the farm on a summer day. And in the winter, if there was a winter storm, we would always wait to see if the mailman would make it through the stormy, country roads before trying to make it into town. He was our touch to the outside world. Remember, most of us did not even have a phone on the farm.
